Columbus man arrested for attempting to pay with counterfeit money

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus police have arrested a man for attempting to use counterfeit money at a south Columbus Walmart.

On Monday, April 10, at around 7 p.m., a man checking out at the Walmart at 3515 Victory Dr. attempted to pay with $1,500 in counterfeit money.

When the cashier took the money to customer service to place it under a fraudulent reader, the suspect tried to leave the store.

A deputy working security at Walmart spotted the man and asked to talk with him. The man, later identified as Defarta Micken, was arrested and charged with first-degree forgery.

Micken is eligible for a $3,000 bond and is still in the Muscogee County Jail.
