AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -  A 12 million dollar gift to Auburn University is leading the way for the creation of a Culinary Science Building.

The Culinary Science Building will neighbor the Hotel at Auburn University on the corner of South College Street and Thach Avenue.

The facility is expected to include a restaurant, teaching and demonstration kitchens, a beverage appreciation center, and could house luxury apartments.

With two hundred students in the university's hotel and restaurant management program, the center will provide unparalleled opportunities for hands-on lessons.

Hans Van Der Reijden, Managing Director of Hotel Operations and Educational Initiative, says, "Approaching this from a more holistic perspective, to say hospitality and culinary are interconnected and to then be able to have a center where you can learn both sides of the equation -- our vision for the entire project having traveled all over the world to benchmark these programs -- we know that we're creating something that has never been done."

The Auburn University Board of Trustees has already approved the naming of the facility, but there will be some time before you see dirt moving in this area.
