Jury selection underway for Easter weekend 2016 Peachtree Mall murder trial

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A trial for three reported gang members accused of a revenge killing last year at Columbus' Peachtree Mall is underway.

Xzavien Jones, 19, Tekoa Young, 25, and Terrell Mcfarland, 25, are accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Anthony Meredith at the mall the day before Easter in March of 2016.

Each one faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and gang membership. Jones is also charged with using a firearm to commit a crime.

The jury selection for the trial began 9 a.m. Monday.

Attorneys say they expect jury selection to take a minimum of two days. The first full day of the trial was was dedicated to questioning over 60 people for the 12 juror seats. 

The trial is set to resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
