Montgomery man arrested for armed robbery, sexual assault at Eufaula Econo Lodge

EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) – Eufaula police confirmed that an incident at the Econo Lodge on Wednesday caused school lockdowns.

A Montgomery man, 29-year-old Jeremy Franklin, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery and sexual assault that occurred at the Eufaula Econo Lodge on North Eufaula Avenue.

Franklin was taken into custody in the yard of a residence on Lake Drive after he was seen running from the motel.

He is charged with robbery in the first degree, rape in the first degree and sodomy in the first degree. Franklin is was taken to the Eufaula City Jail and he is awaiting a bond hearing.

The victim, whose name will not be released, was treated at Medical Center Barbour for injuries she received in the assault.  The incident continues to be investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division.

The Eufaula Police Department released a statement after Eufaula schools were on lockdown," We have notified the schools that there is no longer a threat and the lockdown has been lifted," Chief Watkins said.
