AUBURN, AL (WTVM)
Clay Golson hit two homers and drove in five runs to key a 12-run first inning as the Auburn Tigers beat the Smiths Station Panthers 12-1 in five innings on Wednesday night in a game played at Sam Welborn Field.
Rowdy Jordan added a two-run double as the Tigers piled up all the runs they would need in the opening inning, sending 15 men to the plate in racking up a dozen runs on eight hits.
Drew Jennings picked up the win, giving up just one run on two hits and striking out four.
Dalton Gunter homered in the third inning for the Panthers’ only run.
The win leaves Auburn just one win away from clinching the AHSAA 7A-Area 4 title. Smiths Station would need two wins in a doubleheader on Thursday to keep playoff hopes alive and throw the area race into a three-way tie between the Panthers, Tigers, and Central Red Devils.
First pitch for Thursday’s twinbill in Smiths Station is set for 5 pm ET, 4 pm CT.
