COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Alabama Attorney General Steven Marshall presented Opelika Middle School with the 2016 Alabama Safe Schools Initiative Award of Excellence Thursday.
The award for the Alabama Board of Education in District 2 emphasizes safety on campus, which the school says is a big deal to them.
Campus police along with the mayor joined the school's principal to receive the award from the Attorney General.
"Safety is obviously a very important issue in this state. One of the things we have attempted to do from the Alabama safe school initiative is to reward the schools that are doing it right," said Marshall.
This is the second time Opelika Middle School won the award.
