Columbus, Hardaway, and Northside claim playoff berths

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Three teams from Columbus claimed spots in the GHSA Class 4A state baseball tournament on Thursday with sweeps in the Region 1 playoffs.

The Columbus Blue Devils will be the 2-seed from the region after topping the Carver Tigers 13-2 and 6-0 at Randy Jordan Field. 

The 3-seed goes to Hardaway following the Hawks 9-0 and 11-0 victories over the Westover Patriots. Jordan Manibusan tossed a no-hitter in the opening game of the doubleheader, while Mykel Page had a no-hitter of his own in the nightcap.

The Northside Patriots earned the 4-seed with a road doubleheader sweep at Americus-Sumter, winning 10-1 and 16-0.

The top seed in the region will go to the Cairo Syrupmakers, who grabbed the top spot with a pair of wins over the Shaw Raiders, 7-0 and 11-1.

The GHSA playoffs will begin on Friday, April 28.
