COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The Ralston Towers in Uptown Columbus is declared unsafe after several fire code violations.

The building, located on the 200 block of 12th Street, received the notice as a result of a stairwell fire last November.

That's when city officials discovered there were no working sprinklers in that stairwell as required.

Director of Inspections and Code Enforcement John Hudginson says as his office began to investigate they noticed a trend of fire code violations.

The owners were given 90 days to get the building up to code or the city will be forced to close the Ralston.

City leaders will discuss the building's numerous fire violations, detailed in a 27-page report, at Tuesday’s council meeting.
