Columbus High’s boys and girls tennis teams are still alive in the GHSA playoffs, but Monday’s wins didn’t come easy. Both teams gutted out a 3-2 team victory to move on to the Elite Eight.

Boys topped Blessed Trinity thanks to their #1 singles and #1 doubles teams. Jacob Yates won in straight sets 7-5 and 6-2 while the top doubles team of Ford Cummings and Harrison Brown took wins in their match, 6-3, 6-3.

It all came down to #3 singles as Jonathan Oravic pulled off a 6-4 and 6-0 win to clinch the team victory and punch their ticket to the next round.

Girls took home the victory over Marist, but it was solid play from their singles players that helped them win.

Their #1 single, Mary Weston Courville was dominant again, winning 6-1 and 6-0 in straight sets. #2 Single Caroline Boren had a closer match but also won in straight sets 7-5 and 6-2. Sydney McRae also won, 2-6, 6-4 and 6-0 in a tie-breaker set.

Up next both girls and boys face North Oconee, also a 1-seed, in the Elite Eight.
