COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Four area girls soccer teams advanced on the opening day of the GHSA state tournament on Tuesday.
Most impressive of the bunch was the Columbus Lady Devils, last year's 4A state runners-up. The Devils scored seven goals in the first 11 minutes of the game and never looked back, as they hammered Hephzibah 15-0 in a game played at CSU's Walden Soccer Complex.
Northside also chalked up a big opening round win, blanking Baldwin 10-0. LaGrange was also a winner in Class 4A play, beating White County 1-0.
Callaway was a winner in 2A, topping Rockmart 6-3.
Two other area teams saw their seasons end. Jordan was eliminated by Dade County 10-0 in 2A, while Brookstone was eliminated from the 1A tournament by Eagle's Landing Christian, 1-0.
