Five area boys soccer teams advance in GHSA state tournament

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Five area boys soccer teams advanced on Wednesday night as the GHSA state tournament kicked off around Georgia.

The Columbus Blue Devils got four goals from Tristan Shytle en route to an 11-0 win over Cross Creek in a game played at the Walden Soccer Complex at CSU.

Northside also advanced in the 4A playoffs after beating Thomson 6-0, while Shaw was a winner on the road, blanking Baldwin 6-0. 

The area’s other 4A teams all lost – Hardaway by a 3-2 count at Richmond Academy, Troup 6-0 at Marist, and LaGrange 1-0 to Chestatee.

Brookstone and Pacelli both advanced in the 1A playoffs. Brookstone beat Our Lady of Mercy 5-1, while Pacelli shut out Drew Charter, 5-0.

In 2A play, Spencer was eliminated by Model by a score of 2-1, and Callaway fell to Pepperell, 4-0.

    College football returned Friday as fall camp began at several schools around the SEC, including Auburn.  They took the field for their first practice open to the media on the Plains Friday afternoon.
