LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) – Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has signed a $49 billion budget with almost half going towards education.
Governor Deal was at West Georgia Technical College's LaGrange Campus Monday signing the legislation.
Breaking down the education parts of the budget: It includes $11.3 billion in funding for the technical college system.
This would go to purchase world-class lab equipment, as well as funding for nursing programs at West Georgia Technical College.
It also includes $516 million for K-12th-grade education.
A $160 million will go to provide a two percent increase in salary for some school employees.
"I believe this is a good budget. I believe that it attempts to fulfill the needs of the citizens of Georgia and has a forward-looking approach," said Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
Also included in the budget is money for autism services for children served by Medicaid and money towards the University System of Georgia among other things.
