Columbus, Northside girls eliminated, LaGrange girls advance in GHSA soccer tournament

It was a tough day for area teams as the state soccer tournaments continued in Georgia and Alabama on Tuesday.

The Columbus Blue Devils saw their dreams of another trip to the GHSA 4A girls state final end when they fell to the Blessed Trinity Titans 2-0 in a game played at Woodruff Farms Soccer Complex. Northside’s season also came to an end, as the Patriots lost at Marist 9-0. The LaGrange Grangers posted the only win by an area team, beating Cairo 6-0 to advance to the 4A quarterfinals.

Callaway lost at East Laurens 4-1 to end their run in the 2A girls tournament.

The Auburn boys lost a hearbreaker in the AHSAA 7A tournament. Cole Webster scored in the 78 th minute to give Prattville a 3-2 victory. The Auburn girls lost on the road to Prattville, 4-0, while the Smiths Station boys were shut out at Enterprise, 8-0.

In 6A, both Opelika teams lost on the road, the boys at Homewood 3-0, the girls 8-0 at John Carroll Catholic. 

Eufaula was eliminated from the 4A/5A boys tournament, losing at Andalusia by a 4-1 final.
