COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus Police Department employees were honored Wednesday for their service to the community.

In a ceremony that took place Wednesday morning at the Public Safety Building, awards for years of service and safe driving were handed out.

Wednesday afternoon in a separate ceremony, the officer of the year, lifesaving awards, and citizen service awards among others were presented.

"I don't do anything differently than anybody else in this police department does.  Why I got picked? I don't know. I'll keep doing what I do I'll keep working with who I work with. I'll keep loving this community even if they love me or not. I'm just… speechless," said Robert Nicholas, officer of the year.

Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police's Operation Noble Eagle Pins were also given out.
