COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Sigma Pi Phi fraternity gave away several thousand dollars in scholarships Saturday afternoon.
The ceremony took place at the Marriott in Uptown Columbus.
It's the fraternity's annual awards day program.
Each year they recognize high school and middle school students for outstanding performance.
Social Action Chairman William E. Roundtree says they have seen great results from this program.
"We have seen these students develop from shyness to a development of confidence," says Roundtree.
The ceremony also shines a light on the fraternity's mentor program.
The scholarship program has been around for 15 years and has given out more than $400,000 in scholarships.
