LaGrange, Schley County set to go for finals berths

A pair of area teams will take a shot on Wednesday at earning a berth in next week’s GHSA state baseball championships.

The LaGrange Grangers (25-11) play host to Marist in the Class 4A semifinals. The Grangers have run the table so far in the playoffs, sweeping Chestatee in the first round, Northside in the second round, and Stephens County in the quarterfinals. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 4:30 pm ET at Granger Field in LaGrange. If a game three is needed, it will be played on Thursday at 4:30 pm.

The Schley County Wildcats (30-2) came into the Class 1A-Public tournament as the top seed, and like LaGrange has been perfect in the playoffs. After receiving a first-round bye, he Wildcats swept Trion in the second round and Taylor County in the quarterfinals. Next up is Telfair County. Wednesday’s doubleheader starts at 4 pm ET in Ellaville, with a possible game three scheduled to begin at 2 pm on Thursday.

Both LaGrange and Schley County are seeking the second state title in program history. LaGrange was the 4A state champ in 2004, while Schley County won 1A-Public in 2015.
