PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – May is national stroke awareness month.

Stroke and fitness were the topics Wednesday at this month's Brunch and Learn held at the Central Activity Center in Phenix City.

The free event is held the third Wednesday of each month and focuses on topics of interest to senior adults and/or their caregivers

On Wednesday, Quinard Webb, a physical therapist at Regional Rehabilitation Hospital spoke with seniors about the early signs of strokes and how to prevent them.

Organizer Pat Harrell says maintaining a healthy lifestyle can keep you from becoming a victim of a stroke.

"Being fit and exercising can assist you in avoiding a stroke," said Harrell said.

Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Phenix City is a stroke certified hospital by the joint commission Center for Excellence.
