COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Northside Medical Center off Veterans Parkway, which is part of Columbus Regional Health, broke ground on a new emergency department.
Currently, the hospital does not have one.
The new 12,000-square-foot Emergency Department, which will connect to the existing medical center, will house 10 beds and emergency medical support services.
Emergency vehicle access, a 40-space parking lot, and associated site work are also included in the expansion project.
"We're really excited our senior leadership and our Columbus Regional Health System Hospital Board is investing six plus million dollars in this expansion. So this is going to be an emergency department that we don't have at Northside Medical Center. We have basically all the other services that you can think of in a hospital, but with the emergency department, its really going to take it to the next level for Northside Medical Center," Michael Zimmermann, Director of Emergency Dept. Columbus Regional.
The addition is set for completion in April 2018.
