CPD releases identity of officer who hit and killed murder suspect on Cusseta Rd.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police have released the identity of the officer involved with hitting and killing a murder suspect. 

The officer involved in the incident on Cusseta Road near 27th Avenue on May 18, 2017, is Officer Ryan Vardman. 

He has been placed on the administrative leave, which is the department's procedures, and pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Officer Vardman has been with the police department for six years.

The murder suspect killed in this incident was 22-year-old Deonte Giles. According to police. Giles had a warrant out for his arrest for the deadly shooting on Ticknor Drive that killed 44-year-old Dudley Jones Jr.
