COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus High is in the driver's seat for both 4A Girls and boys state golf tournaments after the first round.
A three-stroke lead for the girls and a whopping 15-stroke advantage have the Devils eyeing a state championship in the final round.
CHS boys cruised to a first place finish in the opening round as three players finished under par. Jonathan Parker shot -3 (68), good enough for second place among the individuals. Nolan Miller and Ben Carr also had good days, shooting a -2 (69) for the day to give Columbus a 15-stroke lead over Marist.
Things are looking good for the girls as well. Mary Catherine McDaniel and Faith Scott are in the top 10 among individuals, as they shot a 76 and 78 respectively, helping the Blue Devils secure a three-stroke lead over Woodward.
Northside and LaGrange are also in the 4A boys tournament. The Patriots are in 8th after the first round, while the Grangers hold the 12th place spot.
With the girls, Northside is 18th.
Round two tees off Tuesday morning, and will decide a state champion in 4A.
