COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Three gang members in Columbus, convicted of murder were sentenced Tuesday.

Xzavaien Jones was sentenced to life without parole for murder charges, 20 years for aggravated assault, 15 years for possession of a firearm, 15 years of street gang terrorism and prevention act and $10,000 fine.

Tekoa Young was sentenced to life with parole for murder charges, 20 years for aggravated assault and five years for violation of street gang and $10,000 fine.

Terrell McFarland was sentenced to life with parole for murder charges, 20 years for aggravated assault, five years for street gang violation and $10,000 fine.

They were convicted May 3, for the killing of Anthony Meredith outside Peachtree Mall in March 2016.

Defense Attorney, William Kendrick says he is happy his client, Tekoa Young, was given the minimum sentence.

"Of course we are respective of the courts sentence and ruling, we were disappointed in the verdict in this case, but I think as far as sentencing goes, the court couldn't have done anything better for her, so we are happy for her in that regard," said Kendrick.

Before the sentencing, a family spokesperson sharing the impact the murder of 24-year-old Anthony Meredith had on the family. The family says they have been waiting a year for justice to be served, and will try to move on now that the trial, and sentencing is over.

"His life was senselessly cut short. we have to keep his legacy going, because he is now living in the land of the remembered. Because that is all that we can do, remember him for the great person he was," said family spokesperson while in court.

Prosecutors say through this sentencing, they hope to send a clear and indistinguishable signal to not commit similar crimes like this one in Columbus.

Young and McFarland will be eligible for release after serving 30 years. While in court, Defense attorneys motioned for a new trial. Kendrick says a draft version of an appeal is already in the works for Tekoa Young.

A hearing for a new trial date has been scheduled for November 29.
