CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – On Wednesday, the Chambers County School Board will address an inappropriate gag award that placed a Valley, AL band director on unpaid leave.

According to Chambers County Superintendent Kelli Hodge, the 'Hernandez Award' contained a pail and shovel to dig the way back across the border, a green card, and chips and salsa.

Seniors in the band put the award together for a banquet and the entire band votes on who would get the award.

Band Director, Shannon Chandler, was held fully responsible for the act, being placed on unpaid suspension until the end of the school year.

The incident will be discussed to the public during the board meeting which kicks off at 4 p.m. CT. on Wednesday.
