COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Columbus Blue Devils swept the state titles at the GHSA Class 4A state golf tournaments, with a little help from Mother Nature.

The second rounds for both the boys and girls tourneys were rained out, so both sets of Devils took their first round leads to the championship. The boy's tourney was at the Country Club of Columbus, the girls played at Maple Ridge Golf Club.

The Columbus boys (279 = -5) beat Marist by 15 shots, while the girls (239 = +23) topped Woodward Academy by three shots. It’s the second straight state title for the boys, 12th in program history. For the girls, it’s the first in three years and ninth overall.

On the individual side, Jonathan Parker finished tied for second at 68 (-3), just one shot back of medalist Daniel McKenzie of St. Pius X. Mary Catherine McDaniel finished fourth in the girl's tournament at 76 (+4), two shots back of co-medalists Caroline Craig of White County and Hannah Jones of Blessed Trinity.

The rain spoiled things for Brookstone in the 1A-Public tournament at Green Island Country Club. The Cougar boys (298, +14) were in second place, nine shots behind First Presbyterian Day, while the girls (175, +33) were in third, seven back of leader Wesleyan.

As for individual championship standings, Walker Hinds led the Cougars with even-par 71, good for a tie for third place. Robert Howard of North Cobb Christian was the medalist at 3-under 68. For the Lady Cougars, Sanders Hinds tied for third at 12-over 83. Elisa Yang of Wesleyan at 70 (-1).
