TALLAPOOSA, AL (WTVM) – The Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force conducted two drug raids that resulted in the arrest of eight suspects.

On May 18, a search warrant was executed by the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, Alexander City Housing Authority, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and Dadeville Police Department at a residence on Lockhart Road in Dadeville.

During the search of the residence, investigators recovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The following people were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Philip Taft, 41, of Opelika, AL
  • Maggie Tapley, 40, of Tallassee, AL
  • Jeffery Price, 63, of Dadeville, AL
  • Travis Smith, 42, of Tallassee, AL

David Lamar Newsome, 43, of Dadeville, AL

On May 25, 2017, the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force, US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Alexander City Housing Authority executed several arrest warrants and a search warrant in the Jackson’s Gap area.

Investigators recovered approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine from two locations and seized a 2007 Audi A4. 

The following people were arrested as a result of this drug raid:

  • Robert Boothe, 53, of Jackson Gap, AL - Charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence
  • Joshua Brandon Howard, 29, of Springville, AL - Charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Jerry Berry, 52, of Jackson’s Gap, AL - Charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia

The investigation of the illegal trafficking, distribution, and possession of narcotics is ongoing in Tallapoosa County.
