FORT MITCHELL, AL (WTVM) -

It's been 18 years since Shelia Kyser has held her daughter Candice close.

Shelia said it was May 8, 1999: A day she'll never forget.

“I was really starting to worry then," said Kyser. "It was unlike her not to call me when she got home."

Kyser said she drove to her daughter's home in Fort Mitchell to check on her and make sure everything was okay since she hadn't heard from her. But what she discovered was far from it.

“I knocked on the front door," said Kyser. "I knocked on the back door...no answer..so I crawled in the window. I went back to the back bedroom and that's where I found Candice. She was laying beside the bed.”

According to Alabama law enforcement officials, Candice and her boyfriend David Keller were shot and killed during a suspected murder inside their mobile home, just hours before Kyser found them.

“I just remember screaming and running through the trailer park for someone to help me," said Kyser.

Kyser said Candice's 2-year-old daughter was home when the killing occurred.

“The baby is the only thing that kept me sane getting through this," said Kyser. "If they had killed the baby I don’t know what I would have done.”

Although Kyser said her granddaughter was too young to remember much about the incident.

Kyser said not a day goes by that she doesn't think about the unsolved case.

“They’ll get $10,000 if they can just let us know who killed her.”

There is a $10,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information leading the suspect's arrestest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Russell County Sheriff's Office at 334-298-6535.
