COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Fire and EMS and Columbus Police Department rescued a couple along with their baby who was stuck on the rocks near the 14th Street Bridge.
The couple is 21-year-old Kateria Johnson and 23-year-old Raymond Reese.
Columbus Police said both are charged with violating city ordinance 14-45 which require everyone to wear a personal floatation device on the Chattahoochee River.
That couple and their one year daughter were rescued by the Columbus Fire Department around 7:45 p.m. this evening.
Police said the couple made their way onto the rocks in the river before the water started to rise, but became stranded by surrounding waters.
A local jogger, Buddy Brannon said he saw the entire situation unfold and called 911. That's when rescue crews made their way in the river and pulled the couple and the baby out safely.
No injuries have been reported.
The couple has been released from the Muscogee County Jail.
