Some people in Fairhope have noticed problems will cell phone reception lately. FOX10 News found out why.

City leaders said they had to remove three cell phone antennas from a water tower on Fairhope Avenue. Workers are preparing the tower to be sandblasted and repainted. The antennas are now in temporary locations closer to the ground. Customers of AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are affected.

"Just bear with us Fairhope residents. We will try to get through this and hopefully minimize some of the coverage issues," said Dan McCory of Fairhope Water and Sewer.

McCory claimed the cell companies were supposed to notify customers of the temporary change.

Verizon representative Jeannine Brew said, "The cell site has been relocated to a new site that provides comparable service. Under these circumstances, a notice to customers is not required."

In a statement, Roni Singleton with Sprint said, "Because we relocated the site, it is on air, and Sprint customers should not be experiencing any noticeable degradation in service, there were no notifications made to our customers in the area."

According to Fairhope, the work on the water tower should be finished in about 6 months.
