Washington Post reporters were in Alabama reporting on other stories surrounding the hotly contested Alabama Senate race when the explosive allegations surfaced against Roy Moore. We spoke with them to get a closer look into their investigation.

Leigh Corfman telling The Washington Post Moore initiated a sexual encounter with her in the Gadsden area when she was 14 years old and he was 32. Corfman told the Post the contact was not desired and wanted it to be over. Corfman says Moore told her how pretty she was and kissed her then she says he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes and allegedly touched her over her bra and underwear.

“She does not allege any sex occurred. She says that it was basically touching and him have her touch him,” Aaron Blake, a reporter with The Washington Post said.

Three other women also say Moore pursued them when they were teens and he was in his early 30s. Those women saying Moore did not force them into any sexual contact.

Blake says why he believes the women came forward. “I think in light of some of the allegations made against a number of powerful men in recent months and years, they decided they wanted to talk this time,” Blake said.

The Washington Post story took six weeks to put together. The newspaper spoke with 30 sources.

Reaction is coming swiftly from a few Republicans. Blake says right now the party is trying to figure out how to move forward.

“Anytime you have a situation like this and the special election is a month away, the party is going to struggle with their response a little bit. After all he’s the candidate who’s on the ballot. He’s there one hope of winning this seat,” Blake added.

The Moore campaign denies the claims saying the allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack.

In a short statement, Doug Jones spokesperson says: "Roy Moore needs to answer these serious charges”.
