COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Children at St. Francis Hospital got a surprise ahead of Christmas weekend.
Local and state law enforcement handed out teddy bears and other stuffed animals to children Wednesday morning.
Cody the Cougar, Columbus State University's mascot, was also at the giveaway.
Passing out the bears is a tradition that started out more than 20 years ago by Judge Michael Cielinski after physicians at St. Francis saved his daughter's life following a swimming accident.
Cielinski's assistant, Joyce Waters, says it's a worthwhile cause.
Cielinski also hopes it helps children to not be afraid of police officers.
