Columbus police visit children at Midtown Medical Center

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The West Central Chapter of the Police Benevolent Association held its 4th annual Blue Lights and Smiles event Thursday night.

Representatives from local law enforcement agencies convoyed to Midtown Medical Center to visit the Children's Hospital in 'blue light' style. They turned on their police lights and waved to the children inside the hospital. They waived back with flashlights.

The officers then went inside to deliver gifts to the kids' rooms.

"This has been something for the officers to give back. Also, to recognize that these children need someone apart of their lives as well," said Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick, president of the West Central Chapter of the Police Benevolent Association.

The Police Benevolent Association also recognized Midtown Medical Center with a community award for their support of law enforcement.
