(WTVM) - Traffic-related deaths in Georgia during the Christmas travel period have surpassed last year's totals.
Thirteen people died on Georgia roadways during the travel period, which began Friday, Dec. 22 and ended at midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
This number is an increase from the eight people who lost their lives in the same period last year.
The State Department of Public Safety says that this year's travel period was one full day longer this year than it was last, which adds to the total.
The numbers for Alabama holiday traffic-related fatalities have not yet been released.
