Alabamians urged to get vaccinated as number of flu cases rise

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The number of flu cases is rising across the state of Alabama and there is new information on the outbreaks since Friday.
On Friday, the Alabama Department of Public Health said flu activity is picking up for the season and urged people to get vaccinated.

The health department said people should request the "Quadrivalent Vaccine" that protects against four strains of the flu virus.

Quadrivalent is the only version that protects against the Type B/Yamagata flu strain which is currently circulating in Alabama.

The CDC has reported that Alabama is one of 21 states currently reporting high flu activity.
