COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An arrest has been made in Columbus' first homicide of the year.
According to Maj. J.D. Hawk, Tommy McNeal, 65 was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of Nancy Johnson.
Johnson was shot after midnight New Year's Day at the corner of Colorado Street and Rigdon Road. Johnson's daughter was also shot and treated for her injuries at Midtown Medical Center.
Police were told McNeal knew the victims and they were all at a party prior to the shooting.
Swat team members were called to a home on Kendrick Avenue where police received a tip that McNeal was inside. He was apprehended without incident around 5:30 p.m.
McNeal has a violent history with police. He was convicted of killing an out of state police officer in 1975.
