COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A vigil to remember a Columbus man who died in December following a Georgia State Patrol road check was held Thursday evening.
Jarvis Lykes, 35, died after being shot by a trooper Friday, December 29, 2017
A candlelight vigil for Lykes took place on Lumpkin Court.
Lykes' cousin says many people loved him and that he wasn't your average Joe. He was a family man and a hard worker who loved his kids.
"Seeing all these people made me realize he didn't just touch our family, he touched a lot of other people. We have a lot of people who are here that came from out of town just for the vigil. We haven't even gotten to the funeral and we've had people coming here for the vigil just to give respect, and to show how much they love him and how much he's going to be truly missed," said Tamika Lykes.
Lykes' sister says there has been no update since the shooting incident.
