Columbus among Forbes top ten worst cities to find jobs

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Looking for a job in the Fountain City can be difficult for some, and according to a new study on Forbes.com Columbus is number 7 in the Top 10 Worst Cities To Find A Job in 2018.

"I do not agree with that, as a matter a fact I always come back to Columbus to work because this is the state that usually hires me," explained Kita, who works in Columbus. 

Some Residents agree with that number saying that getting a job can be hard if you don’t know the right people, and that causes the city as a whole to struggle with employment.

"It is kind of hard to find a job in Columbus. It’s basically, in all, who you know. You have to know somebody to get a job. You can put an application here, an application there, but if you know somebody that’s the easiest way, I feel like that, you can get a job," said Columbus Resident Latisha Washington.

Not everyone agreed with the numbers. Some were surprised to see that the state of Alabama is on the list twice in the top three.Some feel like anyone can get a job if they really apply themselves to fit the qualifications.

“If people can put their mind to it, they can get any job anywhere. So you don’t agree with those numbers that Columbus? Not necessarily. If people try hard enough they can get a job anywhere,” said Oscar Pocasangre.

The analysis ranked 182 U.S. cities in two major areas: job market, which accounts for 80% of the ranking and socio-economics, which includes income, cost of living, and quality of life.
