Murder suspect answers to charges 3 years after alleged crime

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A man accused of committing a murder in 2014 will take the stand inside Superior Court at the Columbus Government Center.

Otis Perry will answer to murder charges for the December 2014 shooting death of Marquise Shivers, 25.

From its investigation, the Columbus Police Department concluded Shivers was shot on the 4000 block of Sixth Avenue.

Police said Shivers was at a birthday party the night of December 1, 2014. That's when investigators said a fight broke out.

First responders found Shivers wounded, and had him rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Shortly after, CPD issued a murder warrant for Perry in connection to Shivers' death.

Perry turned himself in to authorities in April 2015. In his Recorder's Court appearance, Perry pleaded not guilty and waived his preliminary hearing.

According to court dockets, defense attorney Jennifer Curry will represent Perry in Judge Bobby Peters' courtroom. The trial is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
