Totes-2-Tots hosts event to help kids in foster care

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Georgia Cancer Specialist and Northside Hospital are partnering together to host their 16th annual Totes-2-Tots at The New Apostolic Church.

Approximately 13,000 children ranging from infants to teenagers are currently In Georgia's foster care system. Many go without having something to place their belongings when they move from home to home.

Christine Seyfert helps organize Totes-2-Tots for Columbus and is asking for the community's help in donating new and gently used suitcases, backpack, duffel bags, and even diaper bags.

The organization received an early donation from Brookstone School on Friday.

"Since January of last year they have been collecting at Brookstone school, all these bags and we do not have an official count but it is just under if not right around 6-hundred bags that the school collected," said Seyfert

The event It is held during Martin Luther King Jr.'s Holiday weekend in honor of his vision of philanthropy and giving back to the community.

The drive will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 at New Apostolic Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
