Jacob Eason announces transfer from Georgia

(WTVM) - Jacob Eason is leaving Athens. The sophomore quarterback announced on Twitter Friday afternoon his intention to transfer from the Bulldogs. No official word on where he'll transfer.

In the Tweet, Eason said "Thank you UGA for an incredible two years. The memories and relationships I have made will truly last a lifetime."

Eason came in with a lot of fanfare for the Dawgs in 2016. Ranked the 5th overall prospect by 247 sports, Eason came in and played immediately in the season opener against North Carolina.

As a true freshman, Eason threw for 2,430 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. That year, the Dawgs finished 8-5 with a victory in the Liberty Bowl over TCU.

He was set to lead Georgia once again this season, but an injury against Appalachian State in the first game kept him out. This allowed true freshman Jake Fromm to take the reins, and he wound up leading the Dawgs to the national championship.

Eason never regained his role as starting QB, and finished the 2017 season completing four of seven passes for 28 yards. He played in only three games this season.
