Victim ID'd in fatal vehicle accident on Lee Co. Rd. 175 in Salem

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - One person has died following a single-vehicle accident in Lee County on Friday.

The driver was pinned on Lee County Road 175 and 169 in Salem, AL.

Paul Vitruk, 64, formerly of Auburn was pronounced dead at the scene. Upon arrival to the scene, EMS located him trapped in his vehicle.

According to the Lee County Coroner, Virtruk appeared to be traveling south on Alabama Highway 169. He was pulling a loaded U-Haul trailer and as he approached the intersection of Lee Road 175, his vehicle struck an icy area on the road causing the trailer to jackknife.

His vehicle left the roadway and overturned which caused Virtruk to be pinned inside.

The coroner says this accident was the only weather-related fatality in Lee County due to this week's snow and ice.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lee County Coroner's Office and the Alabama State Troopers.
