AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – Auburn police have made another arrest in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a 13-year-old female runaway who was reported missing in October 2017.
Brian Askew, 37 and Corey Heard, 36, were arrested and Askew was charged with human trafficking after a warrant was executed on him Friday, Jan. 19. Askew received the additional charge of human trafficking while in custody in the Lee County jail on the prior kidnapping and rape charges.
Heard was charged with rape on Sunday, Jan. 21, on an unrelated charge of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and he was taken into custody on the rape charge.
Both arrests stem from the ongoing kidnapping and rape investigation. Heard was developed as a suspect by police and identified as being involved in the sexual assault of the victim along with Askew at his residence.
The investigation into the case continues and additional arrests are anticipated.
Askew remains in custody in the Lee County Jail with an additional $100,000 bond, while Heard is being held on a $100,000 bond.
