Lee County Commission discusses medical care, opening of Smiths Station EMS

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The Lee County Commission met Monday to address the county's medical care.

The Commission opted to take a deeper look at the way to approach the opioid crisis before bringing it in for discussion.

A representative from Smiths Station Fire and Rescue announced it will officially answer emergency calls beginning Thursday, Feb. 1.   The members also discussed funding ambulance services in Lee County.

The board fears the ambulance units will pull out because of lack of funds and they also fear that Auburn's unit will do the same.

Also at Monday's meeting, the board honored the late State Representative George Bandy. Bandy represented House District 83 in Lee County. He was elected in 1994 and passed Jan. 16, 2018 at the age of 72.
