UPATOI MURDER TRIAL: Down to one suspect to stand trial, jury selection continues

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Entering day-three of the Upatoi triple murder trial only one defendant remains.

Monday morning three men were set to stand trial for the brutal murders of Gloria Short, her son Caleb, and granddaughter Gianna Lindsey.

The lone defendant now is the youngest of the three, 17-year-old Rufus Burks.

Suspects Raheem Gibson and Javarceay Tapley have both reached plea agreements with the prosecution.

Jury selection continues. Attorneys are working to narrow the pool of over 100 potential jurors to the necessary number. Attorneys are the idea of pre-trial media coverage, and the impact it may have on potential jurors.

So far, 39 people have qualified for the next round of jury selection.

This potion of the trial is expected to take the remainder of the week.

Opening statements are set to begin Monday morning at 9 a.m.
