AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

A man with an outstanding warrant was arrested in Auburn Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Jason Haile, 38, from Manchester, Georgia was charged with financial exploitation and abuse of an elderly person.

Auburn police responded to a report of a theft of property filed by an 81-year-old Auburn resident on March 14, 2017.

According to the victim, three men offered to install pine straw in areas of her half-acre yard at a cost of $5 per bale. The victim agreed and after the job was done, the men told her she owed over $2,500.

The victim disputed the charge but paid it under duress.

Haile was named a suspect after an investigation and was captured cashing the victim’s check on surveillance. A warrant for his arrest was then obtained and entered into the National Crime Information Center system (NCIC).

Haile was identified by a Shelby County, AL officer during a traffic stop. Auburn officers traveled to Shelby County and took him into custody.

Haile is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Department. Anyone with information regarding the case or who may have experienced a similar incident is asked to call detectives at 334-501-3140 or the Anonymous Tip line at 334-246-1391.
