AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Auburn police responded to an Emergency Medical assist call at a residence in the 700 block of Davis Ct.

Auburn Police Division officers, Auburn Fire and East Alabama Medical Center Emergency Medical Services arrived at the residence and discovered a man trapped underneath a vehicle.

Officers were able to remove the victim, later identified as 33-year-old James Lassiter, from underneath the vehicle and perform CPR and other life-saving measures.

Lassiter succumbed to his injuries at the residence and was pronounced deceased by Lee Co. Coroner Bill Harris at 2:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation has ruled the death accidental.

According to police, Lassiter was performing repairs on the vehicle when it shifted and pinned him underneath. The coroner says Lassiter died from traumatic asphyxia due to crushing chest injuries. It appears he was working on the vehicle when the supports holding the vehicle up suddenly shifted and gave away, trapping Lassiter under the vehicle.

There is no foul play suspected and the incident is being investigated as a tragic accident.

The case is currently under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the Lee Co. Coroner’s Office.
