OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - The City of Opelika is installing new pipes to improve water quality.
These pipes will cost the city $500,000 to install.
Opelika utility officials say the installation has been in the works for a long time.
"We've got some very old pipes over there that need to be replaced," said Dan Hilyer, General Manager of Opelika Utilities. "We have had this project on the books for a while and so while the city is over they are already working, getting ready to pave the streets, it's a good time for us to go over there and replace all those old distribution mains."
The water pipes are being replaced on Auburn St. and Martin Luther King Blvd.
Drivers can expect some inconveniences during this project, which is expected to last about three months.
