LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) - The Krewe of Mask Mardi Gras Parade will be held in Downtown LaGrange on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
Krewe of Mask co-captains Ken Gordon and Josh Cashen moved to LaGrange after Hurricane Katrina destroyed their homes.
The two met and realized that while they loved LaGrange, they missed their old New Orleans traditions.
This year will be the 2nd annual Mardi Gras parade put on by Krewe of Mask, a member organization that puts on the parade and a Mardi Gras party following the parade.
"We need to get people in here to see our community," said Cashen. "We have a wonderful community that people don't know about."
The king and queen of the parade are LaGrange entrepreneurs Neil and Trish Liechty of Bisham Manor.
"I'm glad we're bringing this tradition to LaGrange," said Mardi Gras Parade Queen Trish Liechty. "We can enjoy this event with our families. It's unique and fun and it's never been done here before."
City of LaGrange Executive Assistant Sue Olson is the Grand Marshal of the parade, a distinction which goes to an unsung hero.
"When they told me I was going to be the Grand Marshal, I was shocked," said Olson. "I love my job helping the community and to be recognized for my hard work and 23 years with the city – it's quite an honor."
