West Point woman arrested for arson, attempted murder, aggravated sodomy

WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) -

On Jan. 29, the West Point Fire Department and the West Point Police Department responded to a residential fire in the 1400 block of Avenue K.

The West Point Police Department requested assistance from a LaGrange Police Department Arson Investigator.

An investigation determined that the fire was intentionally set to the apartment duplex, both of which were occupied at the time the fire was set. No occupants were injured.

Wanda Buckner, 44, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with five counts of Criminal Attempted Murder and two counts of Arson – 1st Degree.

Buckner was also charged with Aggravated Sexual Battery, Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Assault and other misdemeanor charges in relation to an assault that took place on Aug. 25, 2017.

Buckner was processed into the Troup Co. Jail where she is being held without bond.
