COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

House of Heroes is helping one veteran repair his home and presented him with a flag during a ceremony Friday.

Veteran Richard Ford had a heart attack while remodeling his home. That’s when House of Heroes decided to step in.

Volunteers teamed up with Home Depot and started work on Ford’s home on Thursday. He says he couldn’t be happier and it’s a blessing for people to give back to veterans.

"It’s still surreal. You wake up and think that things like this are dreams. There’s so much love that you can reach out and touch,” Ford says.

Ford was honorably discharged from the Army in 1975. His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge.

He will also receive a $$6,000 worth of appliances for his home.
