Driver faces manslaughter charges two years after deadly I-10 crash

MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) -

A Mississippi man has been indicted on two counts of manslaughter for his role in a deadly crash on Interstate 10 in 2016.

Prosecutors said Brian Hanley, 21, was under the influence of alcohol and driving recklessly when he crashed into a trailer near exit 10 in Mobile County.

Sarah Rushing, 20, and Erika Larson, 18, were passengers in Hanley's vehicle. Both ejected and killed instantly.

Investigators said the group was on its way home to Ocean Springs after a trip to the beach.

The Mobile County Sheriff's office said Hanley was arrested in Crestview, Florida Sunday.

Mobile County Assistant District Attorney, Keith Blackwood said they're finally holding Hanley accountable.

"The indictment alleges that he was under the influence of alcohol when the crash happened," Blackwood said.

Blackwood wouldn't tell FOX10 News all the details of the case but he did tell us why there was a two year delay in Hanley's arrest.

"He wasn't arrested initially but a lot of times with these traffic homicide cases, it just takes time to get the forensics and do the accident reconstruction.  The investigation is not done when the crash happens. It just takes some time. Some witnesses were out of state and that played a role in it too, " Blackwood added.
Blackwood said this arrest is justice for both Rushing's and Larson's families.

"It's definitely the first step in holding him accountable for what we believe to be some reckless conduct that led to the death of these two girls," Blackwood said.

Since the crash, Alabama court records show Hanley has been ticketed three times in mobile county for different traffic violations, involving speeding and reckless driving.
Blackwood said Hanley is set to be in court sometime this week for a bond hearing on the two manslaughter charges.
