PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Public officials will meet for the latest Phenix City City Council meeting, where Mayor Eddie Lowe will award a new group of students scholarships to earn college credits while still in high school.

16 students from Central High School will receive these scholarships to ensure they sign up for the Dual Enrollment Program offered through Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

Tuesday's awards are part of the most recent fundraising effort from the Mayor's Ball for Education and Charity in 2017.  At last year's fundraiser, donors and guests raised over $100,000;  in the four years the ball has been hosted, the charity committee and donors have raised around $250,000.

All that money raised has been awarded to graduates from both Central and Glenwood High Schools, current students planning to take Dual Enrollment, or local non-profits in an effort to improve the community.
